Exploring Kalimpong: A Cool Town in the Himalayas
Kalimpong is a lively market town nestled in the rolling foothills and deep valleys of the Himalayas. It's now a popular spot for tourists because of its mild weather and its closeness to other famous tourist spots. What makes Kalimpong stand out is its flower market, especially the variety of orchids available. The town also boasts Buddhist monasteries, like the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, known for its rare Tibetan Buddhist texts, churches, and an excellent private library focused on Tibetan and Himalayan language and culture. Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, the 17th Karmapa, calls Kalimpong home. Additionally, the town is renowned for its traditional handicrafts. Even though not everyone thinks of visiting Kalimpong, there's plenty to do for a couple of days, including some exciting trekking and river-rafting on the Teesta River for those feeling energetic.
